About Willard Marine Inc.
Willard Marine was founded in 1957 by Bill Tighe, a World War II veteran who originally grew up on the Ohio River. Tighe formed the company with the aid of fellow businessmen who were in separate, but related industries. Willard Buchanan helped design the company's first ketches, George Angle, who owned a large fiberglass-reinforced plastics manufacturing company provided working capital for operations, and Bill Crealock and Herb David contributed their design talents to the construction of Willard Marines’ boats. The company experienced substantial growth throughout the 1970’s as they constructed a series of 30 and 40 foot yachts, gaining them notoriety.
In 1976, Willard was awarded its first government contract for fifty-six 32-foot patrol boats for the U.S. Coast Guard, which initiated the company’s military and commercial product focus. In 2003, the company announced that they would cease producing recreational vessels in order to concentrate on a series of continuing military and commercial boat-building contracts. Willard expanded to the East Coast of the U.S. in 2010, opening up a manufacturing and reconditioning facility in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
