About Microsemi Corp.

Microsemi was founded in Culver City, California in 1959, and incorporated in Delaware the following year in 1960. Their initial business practices were described as a supplier of miniature silicon diodes that were ideal for use in beam profile detecting or to measure depth-dose distribution. Microsemi’s first merger happened in 1969 with Standard Resources Corporation, forming Standard Resources and Microsemiconductor. In their earlier years, Microsemi was strictly a defense contractor. Between 1986 and 1990, the company acquired over 60% of the shares of 11 different companies. By 1999, Microsemi completed the acquisition of Linfinity. Microsemi was acquired by Microchip Technology in 2018 for approximately $10 billion.

Aerospace and Defense

Microsemi’s products are used in the latest models of commercial aircraft such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Boeing 737 MAX, Airbus A350 and Airbus A320neo. Microsemi's products are used in most satellites, and in a wide range of commercial and military avionics systems. Microsemi’s product offering for aerospace include radiation hardened and radiation tolerant solutions for the satellite market. Microsemi's defense and security solutions are also used in products such as unmanned aerial vehicles, radar applications and radio and guidance systems.
