About ITT Interconnect Solutions
ITT Interconnect Solutions, originally operating under the name Cannon, was first established in 1915 by James H. Cannon. In their early years, Cannon focused on the development of various electronic components, many of which helped spearhead sound films during the early era of the movie industry. From this success, the company began manufacturing various connectors for the entertainment industry, including those that were implemented within the first radio microphones, black-and-white television cameras, and color television equipment.
In the 1930’s, Douglas Aircraft Company contracted Cannon for a circular connector that could be used for their DC-1 aircraft platform. Douglas Aircraft Company quickly became a key customer of Cannon, as their connectors were used for subsequent platforms such as the DC-2 and DC-3. As the aerospace industry developed and World War II grew near, Cannon connectors became utilized by almost every aircraft manufacturer in the United States.
During the 1950’s, Cannon invented the D-sub connector, a component which became very popular in the military and aerospace markets. From vehicles to armaments, Cannon quickly became a manufacturer of many defense parts that served a variety of applications. Cannon also began working on the U.S. Space Program at this time with supplied specialized connectors, aiding in the effort of the first U.S. manned lunar landing.
Leading into the present, Cannon has continued to diversify their product applications, creating components for diagnostic equipment, telecommunication, automotives, transportation, and much more. In 1963, the company was acquired by ITT, later becoming ITT Cannon. In 2007, ITT Cannon changed its name once again, rebranding themselves as ITT Interconnect Solutions with headquarters based in Irvine, California.
