About ATR

ATR is a Franco-Italian aircraft manufacturer that is based in Toulouse Blagnac International Airport in Blagnac, France. It was created in 1981 by Aerospatiale of France and Aeritalia of Italy; Aerospatiale is now Airbus and Aeritalia is now Leonardo. The three companies curtail different manufacturing processes to construct a complete aircraft; Leonardo produces the fuselage and tail sections, Airbus constructs the wings, and the final assembly/flight-testing is the responsibility of ATR. By the 2000’s, ATR had delivered the 600th aircraft to Air Dolomiti. By the 2010’s, the 900th aircraft was completed and delivered to TRIP Linhas Aereas. ATR leads the turboprop regional airliner market since the 2010’s with a 75% market share. They are operated in nearly 100 countries by 200 airlines, and over 30 million flights have been completed to date.

Products, Services, and Platforms

Aircraft: ATR manufactures two sizes of turboprop aircraft, the 70-seat ATR 72 and the 50-seat ATR 42. Both aircraft benefit from fuel, emissions, and cost efficiencies provided by turboprop engines. ATR turboprops provide airlines with opportunities for operating short-haul routes at a low operating cost. Airlines servicing smaller markets need more fuel efficient-aircraft to continue operating regular flights between regional airports and to main airports/hubs. ATR utilizes composite materials among regional aircraft; approximately 20 percent of the ATR 42 and ATR 72 structure is made of composites, which helps reduce fuel burn and emissions. Turboprops require remarkably little runway for takeoff and landing, providing the unique flexibility to serve airports with shorter runways.
